The Port- Louis Waterfront is the first project of the State Property Development Co (SPDC) Ltd. In fact, SPDC Ltd was set up in 1989 to implement the Port Louis Waterfront Development Project. The Port Louis Waterfront Project was meant to transform this part of the Port Louis Harbour where past and present blend, and where culture, leisure and commercial attractions combine to create a unique space beside the sea.
The Port Louis Waterfront provides modern amenities to tourists and the local population. Its architecture preserves all historical symbols which link this place to its past. Historical buildings have been carefully restored and renovated.
The two commercial buildings, the Astrolabe and the Coaster’s Shed enclose a wide open esplanade of approximately two acres and a waterfront edge over 365 metres in length.
The Port Louis Waterfront is linked to the city by two underpasses which are used by fifteen thousand people daily.
